Stumblers’ Luck never seems to let us down. One of our favourite summer outings is the Old Warden walk, which we try to schedule when the Shuttleworth Collection are flying. What we hadn’t expected was that this time they had a guest appearance by the Vulcan XH558, on its swansong tour of Britain before being grounded for ever. And our luck continued as we found ourselves passing the airfield just in time for the most jaw-dropping display imaginable.
Needless to say, we found ourselves surrounded by telephoto lenses as hundreds of people had turned out to witness the graceful bowing out of one of the most outstanding aircraft from the golden years of British aviation. After this year, we’ll never see a Vulcan in the air again.
